About Pennsylvania
Do I need to bring ID and medical card?
Why does the dispensary scan my ID or card?
We scan to verify your status as a registered PA medical-cannabis patient (or caregiver) and to ensure you do not exceed state-mandated supply or possession limits. Your personal data is protected and is used only for compliance purposes.
How much medical cannabis can I purchase?
In Pennsylvania, registered medical-cannabis patients may obtain up to a 90-day supply as defined under PA law. The exact amount is determined by your certifying practitioner and dispensary pharmacist within the program’s limits.
Do I need to be an Pennsylvania resident?
Yes. To purchase under the PA Medical Marijuana Program you must be a resident of Pennsylvania and certified by a registered PA practitioner under PA DOH rules. Out-of-state medical cards are not accepted for PA dispensary purchases.
Can medical-cannabis patients purchase more than general limits?
Since PA currently only allows medical-user purchases (no adult-use), the “general limit” is the patient limit. Your certifying practitioner may recommend specific amounts within the 90-day supply framework.
Can I consume cannabis on-site at the dispensary?
No. Use or consumption must occur only in private locations; on-site consumption or use in public areas is prohibited under PA law.
Can I return my medical-cannabis product?
Generally, sales are final. If a product issue or concern arises (quality, labeling, safety), notify dispensary staff immediately. We will document the event and follow PA DOH required investigation and resolution procedures.
How should I store my medical cannabis?
Store in the original labeled packaging, keep out of reach of children and pets, in a cool dry place, and secure from unauthorized access.
Can dispensary staff give me medical advice?
No. Staff may describe product types, cannabinoid content, and general effect profiles, but they cannot provide medical diagnosis or personalized dosing advice. Consult your certifying practitioner for medical guidance.
Are out-of-state medical cannabis cards accepted in PA?
No. Only patients registered with the PA Medical Marijuana Program are authorized to make purchases under PA DOH-regulated dispensaries.
What taxes apply to my purchase?
Medical-cannabis products under PA law are exempt from Pennsylvania sales tax. Always ask your dispensary for confirmation.
Can I travel with cannabis or across state lines?
You may transport your properly obtained medical cannabis within Pennsylvania only. Transporting across state lines is illegal under federal law and is prohibited irrespective of other states’ laws.
Is driving after using medical cannabis legal?
No. Operating a vehicle while impaired by cannabis is illegal in Pennsylvania and subject to penalties under state law.
How many purchases are logged / how does supply tracking work?
Your purchases and supply are logged in the PA Medical Marijuana Registry and products are tracked via the seed-to-sale system. Dispensaries cannot dispense more than a 90-day supply as tracked under state rules.
What's the difference between medical and adult-use purchases?
Medical purchases are exempt from certain taxes and allow higher possession and cultivation limits. Adult?use customers pay a 10% excise tax plus 6% sales tax.
What do I do if my medical-cannabis card expires?
You must renew your registration in the PA Medical Marijuana Program through your certifying practitioner and the registry before your card expires, to maintain eligibility for purchases.
What if I have an adverse reaction?
Stop use immediately and contact your healthcare provider or the dispensary. Report the event; staff will document the reaction and submit to PA DOH if required.

About Cannabis
What is the difference between THC and CBD?
THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis and is responsible for producing intoxicating or euphoric effects. CBD (cannabidiol) is non?intoxicating and is often associated with mild calming effects. Products may contain THC, CBD, or a combination of both. Effects vary by individual.
How do THC and CBD product differ in effects?
THC?dominant products may produce stronger euphoric or psychoactive effects. CBD?dominant or balanced products may feel milder and are often chosen for a more subtle experience. Always start with a low dose, especially if you are new to cannabis.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are natural aromatic compounds found in cannabis and other plants. They contribute to the scent, flavor, and potential experience of a product.
Do terpenes affect how cannabis feels?
Terpenes may influence how cannabis products feel for some users. For example, some terpenes are commonly associated with relaxing experiences, while others are linked to more uplifting sessions. Individual experiences vary, and research is ongoing.
What are some terpenes?
Examples include:
• Myrcene — commonly associated with earthy or herbal aromas
• Limonene — citrus aroma, often linked with an uplifting experience
• Pinene — pine aroma, associated with alertness for some users
• Linalool — floral aroma, often associated with calming effects
Terpene presence varies by product and strain.
Do terpenes guarantee effects?
No. Terpenes do not guarantee a specific effect. Everyone’s response to cannabis is different. Use terpene information as a general guide and adjust based on personal experience.
