About Illinois
Do I need to bring ID?
Why do you scan my ID?
We scan IDs to verify age and ensure customers do not exceed state-mandated daily purchase limits. Customer data is not stored or sold and is used solely for compliance purposes in accordance with Illinois Administrative Code, Title 68, Section 1290.410.
How much cannabis can I buy per day?
Illinois law allows the following purchase and possession limits for adult-use customers:
– Up to 30 grams of cannabis flower.
– Up to 5 grams of cannabis concentrate.
– Up to 500 mg THC in infused or edible products.
Non-residents may purchase half of these amounts (15 g flower, 2.5 g concentrate, 250 mg THC in edibles). These limits apply per person, per day across all dispensaries statewide.
Do I need to be an Illinois resident?
No. Any adult aged 21 or older with a valid government-issued ID may purchase cannabis. However, non-residents have lower purchase limits as defined above.
Can I consume cannabis on dispensary property?
No. On-site consumption is prohibited unless a local ordinance authorizes a designated consumption area. Under 410 ILCS 705/10-35(a), public consumption is illegal in vehicles, streets, parks, or any public place.
Can I transport cannabis in my car?
Yes, but only if it is:
– Sealed,
– Odor-proof and child-resistant, and
– Stored out of reach of the driver and passengers (e.g., in the trunk).
Consumption while driving or having an open container of cannabis in a vehicle is illegal under 625 ILCS 5/11-502.1
Where can I legally use cannabis?
Use is restricted to private residences where property owners permit it. Cannabis use is prohibited in:
– Public places
– Motor vehicles
– School grounds
– Near anyone under 21
– Any location where smoking is banned under the Smoke-Free Illinois Act
Landlords and property managers may prohibit cannabis use on their property.
Can I travel with cannabis outside of Illinois?
No. Cannabis remains illegal under federal law, and transporting cannabis across state lines is strictly prohibited — even between other legal states.
What are the penalties for over-possession or illegal use?
Possession exceeding legal limits may result in fines or criminal charges, depending on quantity.
– Over 30 g flower = civil violation up to $200 (first offense).
– Larger amounts or repeated offenses may be prosecuted as misdemeanors or felonies under 720 ILCS 550.
How are taxes applied to purchase?
Illinois applies tiered cannabis taxes:
– 10% on products with <35% THC.
– 20% on infused products (edibles, tinctures, etc.).
– 25% on products >35% THC. Local governments may add up to 3.5% additional sales tax.
Can I grow my own cannabis?
Only registered medical patients may cultivate cannabis at home — up to 5 plants out of public view, per household. Adult-use consumers without medical registration are not permitted to cultivate at home.
About Cannabis
What is the difference between THC and CBD?
THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis and is responsible for producing intoxicating or euphoric effects. CBD (cannabidiol) is non?intoxicating and is often associated with mild calming effects. Products may contain THC, CBD, or a combination of both. Effects vary by individual.
How do THC and CBD product differ in effects?
THC?dominant products may produce stronger euphoric or psychoactive effects. CBD?dominant or balanced products may feel milder and are often chosen for a more subtle experience. Always start with a low dose, especially if you are new to cannabis.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are natural aromatic compounds found in cannabis and other plants. They contribute to the scent, flavor, and potential experience of a product.
Do terpenes affect how cannabis feels?
Terpenes may influence how cannabis products feel for some users. For example, some terpenes are commonly associated with relaxing experiences, while others are linked to more uplifting sessions. Individual experiences vary, and research is ongoing.
What are some terpenes?
Examples include:
• Myrcene — commonly associated with earthy or herbal aromas
• Limonene — citrus aroma, often linked with an uplifting experience
• Pinene — pine aroma, associated with alertness for some users
• Linalool — floral aroma, often associated with calming effects
Terpene presence varies by product and strain.
Do terpenes guarantee effects?
No. Terpenes do not guarantee a specific effect. Everyone’s response to cannabis is different. Use terpene information as a general guide and adjust based on personal experience.
